MEDEL condemns the decision of the disciplinary chamber of the Polish Supreme court on lifting the immunity of judge Igor Tuleya, suspending him and reducing his salary.
It is not the first time when this newly established body, which according to European standards doesn’t fulfil the criteria of an independent court, blatantly violates the CJEU ruling of 8 April 2020, according to which the Disciplinary Chamber is suspended.
Unfortunately, Polish authorities, in particular the current President of the Polish Supreme Court, ignore CJEU’s decision, and continue the process of deterioration of Polish legal system and rule of law.
As MEDEL declared in the statement of 13 October 2020 regarding BeataMorawiec, MEDEL consequently does not recognize this decision, considers Igor Tuleya asan active judge and expresses him its full support and solidarity.
