On Wednesday 8 February , a representation of the 21 Afghan women prosecutors and judges seeking asylum in Spain held a press conference at the Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid to report on the current situation of their colleagues in Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan.
This group of women were brought to Spain as the result of the trip to Pakistan in September 2022 of a delegation composed by MEDEL, UpF and 14Lawyers.
Filipe Marques represented MEDEL at the press conference and urged the Spanish government to, during its Presidency of the EU (second semester of 2023), coordinate the efforts of all EU governments in order to grant asylum to all the Afghan jurists who still are in a precarious situation, waiting for rescue.
