Mariarosaria Guglielmi represented MEDEL at the conference organized by the International Network on Justice systems and Democracy on the topic ‘The Judiciary and Artificial Intelligence’, held in Brasilia, at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) on September 1, 2026. The conference brought together judges, prosecutors, academics and members of the judicial systems of Brazil and Italy to discuss the effects of AI on judicial activity and democratic integrity. Mariarosaria Guglielmi took the floor during the first panel focused on “Governance and structure of the judiciary: institutional challenges from a comparative perspective”.
On September 2 and 3, 2026 Mariarosaria Guglielmi represented MEDEL at the 17th edition of the Italian-Spanish-Brazilian Public Law Day, organised by the research network REDBRITES (http://www.redbrites.com.br) that every year brings together scholars and experts from Brazil, Italy and Spain for a comparative exchange and debate on topics related to constitutional law, constitutional values and their interpretations.
The topic of this year’s event was ‘Democratic resistance and constitutional justice’. The seminar analysed the role of Constitutional Courts in the face of pressures and threats to democratic institutions, considering three dimensions: the separation of powers and the independence of the Courts, the protection of fundamental rights, and the structural rules of the democratic process.
Mariarosaria Guglielmi gave a presentation on ‘Global attack on fundamental rights and rule of law, vulnerability and resilience of the judiciary‘ during the session ‘Fundamental Rights in the Context of Democratic Resistance from the Courts’.
